Dell Notebooks Video Cards?

I justr bought a DELL NOTEBOOK.
It gives me 2 options for grpahics cards.

I have the cheaper option.

I want people to tell me - if i get the better option as per below, will
i really notice a differende?

cause w at the moment the ATI 128 mb card seems pretty crappyy !!!

(i am thinking of getting the DELL XPS M1710 that also includes the 256 Ge Forse card below

that better option is better than the x1800 as well. if you can afffored it then you should of got that one instead.

More memory doesn't necessarily mean better performance. But a 7900gs is an alright choice.. just don't expect to play DX10 at all.

$280 (USD) for a 7900gs is Awfully expensive.. I don't know how much they go for out there though so....

u know what

everyone goes on about it being a great p.c for games

i dont play games

i want it for afew reasons

im a photographer so i need great graphics when using photos whop etc

and i also want to have a good loooking laptop for when i visit clients

For games or otherwise it seems expensive; Dell always is. The extra 128mb of VRAM will definitely Help with photo editing and the like But i'm not sure a 7900gs will deliver a noticeably better picture than a x1400.. I don't have any experience With that. :)

interesting.

well, if anyone does no if its ok to get the 256 as listed in the first mesage

oevr the 128

thatd be great

ill be deiting photos and showing clients slideshows of photography etc//.///

and i want to try and avoid as much pixelation as possibl;e

Don't upgrade to the 7900GS if you're not going to game. As long as you have enough system memory, your laptop is going to run photoshop well.

Performance wise the 7900GS will be alot better. But I would stick with the x1400, unless your a gamer.

yeah, but my major problem is

i am not happy with the AtTI RADEON CARD 256.

i am told the ge force 7900 is way better??

see - im nit worried about power, i am owrried about pure visualk quality oif the actual graphics u see whn u look a t at photos and when u look at web sites

i hate pixelation....

I do photography as well, I have the ATI in my 9400 notebook and I have no problems.

What type of problems are you having that are dissapointing? Maybe it's not related to the Video Card ?
Which screen did you go with?

im still unsure of the ge force is slightly better when it comes to graphics u see on a normal web page or graphics / pixels u see in photos being crisper / more defined

wow man

u have the same laptop as me.

and the same graphics card

cute!!

.

well, i have a dell desktop, not sure what graphics card but i paid a fortune for it 3 years back

and the desktop graphics loook so much smoother / more definned.

my issue is, say i go to a web site like dell.com.au

on the laptop, some of the graphics / larger text / tabs seems more pixlated

like its been blown up.

and iv checked all my settings and i also have an excellent resoulution 17 inch widescreen .....

its just not as visually appealaing as what iv seen

so, i am assuming if i get a better greaphs card i get better smoother graphics i guess?? in theory

The pictures/tabs could actually be set at low quality. Also what do you mean by excellent resolution? 1280x1024? Cause the bigger, pixelated graphics sound like you just have a lower res with the lappy

Edit: Saw the other thread, disregard this

You wont notice a difference in text between the two cards, and I highly doubt you would notice the difference in graphics. I've used several ATI and nVidia cards, and I can say I never noticed a difference, even on my 22" LCD using a DVI cable.

I think you just need to check the settings on your card. Go into the Catalyst Control Center and make sure you check the resolution. I use 1920x1200. My images look incredible on my laptop.

You know what, now that I'm thinking of it, I had the same problem when I was posting images on the web, but I can't remember exactly what setting I changed. Off the top my head, I pretty sure it was the resolution. The default settings where not optimum.
I'll think on this a bit.
Hang on to this laptop, you aren't gonna get a better screen image.

I think it was the DPI, that I changed. I liked 105% / 101 DPI

You should be more worried about the laptop screen instead of the graphics card if you're really concerned about image quality. The x1400 will be more than enough for your purposes, all you need now is a high resolution screen.

um, na,

its on the highest res possible

i have been into my settings

i have a widescreen 17 inch 1920 x 1200
