does anybody have dell notebooks? How are they compared to Sony or Toshiba? I currently have a Vaio Notebook PCG-FRV31, it has a celeron 2.4 GHz processor with 512mb of SDRAM, 40GB hard drive. it isnt very good for video editing and i am looking for something newer. Im looking at the Dell XPS M1210 model, it seems to have what i want/need and also compact with a fair price. i am unsure of dell comuter's tho, i have only owned sony vaio's and love them. anybody have reviews on dell's and/or the xps model?

friend of mine just got a dell inspiron with 1gb ram, 1.66ghz core duo, 80gb hdd, dvd-rw. it only cost him like 700.

I've had a lot of friends who have had the hard drive on their dells crash. My favorite brand is Acer...also HP's arent too bad either.

what models where they, any specific ones?

Well of course a Celeron isn't good at video editing. With a laptop, you can't easilly have video hardware that assists with the editing process. Dell, Sony, whatever...if you have a weak processor, you can't do much, video wise :P

As for quality, I know some of their higher end laptops were top rated. Lower end equipment(both desktops and laptops) are some of the cheapest I've seen. So, it really depends on what you plan to get. If you don't mind spending a little money, you could probably get one of their highe end systems(I forget the model names...) and it'd be great. However, I've never owned one of the laptops, only repaired them...

If you don't mind spending the money, I'd get an IBM Thinkpad(or whatever brand makes those now...) Those are some really high quality laptops!
