Dell opinions...

Ok so I really have a very bad opinion of Dells, and I know a lot of others have the same opinion. However, I would like to hear some peoples experiences and views on pro or cons of Dell. Have fun with this everyone :D

argh, i have posted this many times before on different sites. I HATE DELL.

i had a Dell Dimension 8400. (512mb ram, ATi x800 128mb graphics, 150GB HDD, P4 3Ghz etc...)

had it about a year before i gave it to my brother.

in this year:
  • Hard Drive broke 4 times
  • motherboard died once

since then:
  • Hard drive has broken 2 more times (now has a 250GB that i bought myself)
  • motherboard has broken twice.

the motherboard has only ever stopped working when running a game, MSN and iTunes at the same time. makes me laugh.

dude...wow! lol i haven't had that bad of experience with them. but ya those motherboards suck! the only real problem I have with mine is until i upgraded the ram was way to small and then of course the fact that they don't have enough outboard fans on them so they overheat like crazy

lol and i hate upgrading them, they make everything wrong!

their motherboards are backwards! so you cant use a different one!
and their ram is wrong, the bumps are in a different place to "proper" RAM...

lol ya i know i looked into upgrading the board and it didn't take long to find out they made it specifically so you cannot upgrade it! lol its crazy

i upgraded mine from 512 to 2gb ram, put in a graphics card, put in a dvd burner, added a fireware card, upgraded the motherboard from the dell dimension 3000 board to the dell dimension 4600 board to go from PCI slots to an AGP one and go from 2 to 4 memory slots, and put in a larger hard drive....

the only thing i'm not crazy about it the propiatary nature of not being able to use a standard motherboard, and that the bios is locked so i can not overclock my pent4 cpu at all.

I like Dell.

Excellent Laptops
Good Desktops
Great Service
Fantastic Build Quality

Absolutely love my Dell Laptop.

My girlfriend has a dell laptop and last year the HDD went out on it but was still covered under warranty. Their customer service is top notch in my experience and even overnighted the hdd because she used the laptop for online college. As far as their actual machines, I would probably never buy one.

The question is, do you know WHY the drive broke that many times? Because it was a Western Digital Caviar SE.

I HATE DELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They use too many faulty and shit hard drives!! They junk up their install disks. Another bad thing is they are partners with aol!! AOL sucks too. I have had to reinstall xp on my moms pc like 4 times b/c of crap hard drives.

The only decent pc's that DELL makes are the XPS which are just like alienware and way too overpriced!!! You could probably build an XPS for half the price.

Yeah, I suppose we're about due for another Dell-bashing session...oye.

What Dell owners who have a problem with their system seemingly fail to realize is that all pre-built systems can, will, and do suffer from the same problems. Truth be told, many self-built system do, too. Computer hardware is churned out by the thousands, it's only normal for some parts or batches of parts to be defective - it is what it is; deal. I repair Dell systems just as much as I do Gateway, HP, etc. Granted, I service self-fabricated systems less than pre-builts since it's much more common for a major manufacturer to buy entire batches of components, but I occasionally deal with systems of that nature that have the exact same problems.

The *only* time I've had a Dell hardware issue within my family was actually two days ago. My sister-in-law gave me her laptop because her system wouldn't recognize the HDD anymore. I found out the problem, called Dell, arranged for a swap, and the new Drive was shipped overnight free-of charge today.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again...lemmings.

I dont know man! I have an HP and have had no problems. I guess it just depends on someones personal preference and what they do with their pc that would cause problems. But, DELL is known for a lot of faulty stuff.

I got a Dimension 2100 from my grandparents. They still had dial-up three years ago and had a power surge go through the phone line into the modem, blowing the HDD and the modem. Nothing happened when they turned it on, so they gave it to me. I removed the modem and replaced the HDD and it worked fine. Only issue was Windows XP install would freeze anywhere from "Welcome to Windows XP Setup" all to formatting the drive. I called Dell and all they said was to plug it in behind the CD-ROM (which I found to be extremely stupid. It made no difference.) SO, I can say their support sucks. Otherwise I had no issues with it.

dell laptops are great. depending on the useage dell desktops can be suitable. but i wouldnt get one. i would definately get a dell laptop though.

The dell laptop that the Light + sound team at school have a laptop and the motherboard cracked the sound card no longer works!!!!!!!

Just be careful it is a _____ 5150.

If you get a laptop - go get a mac and then install windows on it :D

That was sarcasm.

The motherboard cracked and the sound card no longer works? That can happen with any laptop, gj.

We have 2 dell laptops in the family, and the only problem we've had with them is when a key from the keyboard popped off and broke. Olawd.
