hi i searched the forum and it said that there was no post for this so if there is sorry. I want to upgrade my dell optiplex gx620 cpu. I want to upgrade to the highest i can go. I have searched this topic and got conflicting results that have me a bit confused. some said dual core would work and others said according to dell it wont. I want to upgrade for gaming so what the highest cpu that has been installed and worked ?

Looks like the Pentium D 840 is the highest you can go, which is a dual core 3.2ghz cpu. Depending on the games you want to play, you may have to save money and get a new system.
 
Yeah get a new system. Those GX620's are fairly long in the tooth these days.
 
ok thanks i know its old lol i am trying to play gta 4 it says that the minimum specs for the cpu is dual core around 1.8 ghz i think so i figured i could upgrade the cpu and add a graphics card to be able to play it. well what would be the cheapest best machine to run gta 4 ?
 
A cheap PS3 from cowboom.

Kidding aside, GTA4 was a pretty poor port that runs kind of crappily even on high end systems.
