Dell optiplex gx1 CD drive problem

The Dell optiplex gx1 I got when I was going to college has disk drive problems any one else have the same problem

Dude, the gx1 was a slot 1 platform. Computer components have a finite lifespan, especially the ones with moving parts.

You should be able to replace the drive with another IDE one.

The disc drives won't read or Write to a CD

It won't happen in the Dell but in my HP the disk drive works

What does this have to do with anything? It doesn't work in the Dell. Buy a new drive.

I'm not sure if I buy a new CD drive from eBay what interface is needed

Take the bad drive out and it should have a wide flat ribbon cable, which means its an IDE connection. Anything that old would have an IDE connector.
