You said you can acquire a Dell in-town right? Why not just do so and see if you're happy with it? Just keep the receipt and packaging.
Most stores have return policies in effect now for things purchased up to December 24th. They'll match the price (if it goes on sale after Christmas) or do a return through January 31st. I'm thinking specifically of Staples, which is the only store I know of that retails Dell monitors.
I dont have anything against Hanns-G but i dont really want to order a monitor online so i'm gonna give the Dell a try and if i dont like it i will buy one online.
A Sansung A panel is pretty awful out of the box but you can use the calibration techniques listed on one of those review sites to make it look "almost" like the S panel. I would say the Dell would be better (arguable).
And of course, it'll have a better response time (than the Dell) regardless.
Which retailers do you have in your area? Circuit City sells the Hanns-G monitors.
Staples sells the Samsung 6 series (including the 226BW). They also sell the Acer P series, some HP junk, and a NEC model with a "Staples" name tag on it. No LG or Hanns-G. Maybe some other stuff I'm forgetting.
Anyway, the important thing is that they have both the Samsung and the Dell.
Target only sells Westinghouse and Wal-Mart sells lower-end Acer models. I don't know about the other stores.
The staples in town doesnt have the samsung 226bw in the store though you have to order off there site so i basically would still be ordering a monitor online.
Well i got the Dell E228WFP 22" widescreen lcd and it is wonderful! Not a single dead pixel and only the smallest amount of ghosting on a black screen. It has nice sharp images and games look amazing at 1680x1050. All of you thinking of getting a 22" the Dell is awesome!!!!
Thats the monitor i'll be getting when I gather up the money for it... The only problem is, I have the Dell Dimention 8400, and im not sure if my graphics card can support it.. I'll make a new post asking this question so im not hijacking this one
