Dell PSU upgrade question

I have a 4500 series Dell and want to upgrade the power supply. I have heard that Dell motherboards are proprietary and do not allow a standard power supply unit. I was wondering if the 4500 series was included in this since there are some units that apparently do use standard PSU connnections. I was looking at this picture http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/dellconverter.html and my motherboard doesn't have the extra connector off to the left. It does however have a 4 pin seperate connector. Does anyone know if the 4500 series requires a special adapter or if a standard one will work. I don't really want to spend $200 for a "special" pcu when I can get a much better standard one for a lot less money.
