Well I'm want to upgrage my Dell 4600 computer for future gaming. So I plan on installing more RAM, a new graphics card, and a new hard drive. With all this I'm going to need a new PSU. I was asking around about PSUs and I found out that Dell uses special connectors or somthing so you have to use Dell's PSUs or something like that and I can't buy a standard one off the shelf. I'm not sure if this is true though, so does anyone know anything about this and if there is any way around it?
 
you pretty much have to buy one from Dell unless you like making your own connectors (which can be done but it's annoying)
 
I don't want to take the chance of encountering power supply problems. But I solved my own problem for once. The Dell mobo is a 20pin hook up and computer stores carry some 20 pin psus but there not all that common. Alas a 24-20 connector from newegg is 5$ so I can buy a 24pin psu and a 24-20 connector to hook it up to my mobo. problem solved.
 
I looked at my Dell at work I did not see any special PSU looked like your stander PSU made by LITEON.
 
Unless they changed very recently, Dell still uses a non-standard pinout. The PSU itself could be made by anyone, the connector looks the same but it has the wires arranged differently than your normal ATX PSU
 
yes, Dell H4X involve proprietary connectors and parts... most likely youll be paring premium for a Dell endorsed PSU.
 
PC P&C make the Dell PSUs so they are generally solid ... the only problem is the stock models dont have the amperage/current to handle more powerful equipment
