Usually what I do is, I take the machine when I first get it and set it up, I reformat it. This way it takes all of the "bloatware" off of the machine. All you gotta do is use the Windows disk that comes with the machine. I always make sure I order a disk with the machine. Alot of manufacturers will keep a copy of your operating system on your hard drive. I prefer to use the disk.

well I just got a dell myself and I just went trough and removed all the junk manualy. it is fine now. But if you dont mind spending the time reformating is always a good choice

First determine what software you have to reinstall.

If you have a Dell and have the Operating System
cd (probably Windows XP) and the Drivers Cd then
you can usually just reformat and reinstall. If you
have a recovery partition or recovery CD's then
redoing the computer will put it right back to the
way you received it originally.

ok i have my own xp cd should i still get one from them..and do i really need a drivers cd wont xp be able to detect everything once i format and put xp back on?..and if i do need a drivers cd how do i go about getting that..i didnt order the system yet i just want to make sure of a few things so one is if i have an xp cd do i still need to get one of those and do i really need a driver cd and if so how do i get one of those

you dont need a drivers cd just download them of the net. things like video card sound card printer drivers ect. its all reletivly easy to find

If you order a new machine, it's always a good idea to get a windows disk from the manufacturer. What they do these days is load the entire recovery disk, operating system and all drivers on a seperate partition on your hard drive. I don't care for this process as it takes up room on your hard drive. Especially on a laptop, that's not good as, most hard drives for laptops aren't that big to begin with.

Order a Windows backup CD from the manufacturer and when you get the machine, reload the operating system and use the driver disk to update the machine drivers.

As said above, order the disc from the manufactor. Ask if the OS is on a seperate disc versus a complete recovery disc. Expect to pay!

Dell currently charges $10 for the operating system disk. To me, it makes sense to buy it vs. buying the operating system which costs $80 - $175 for single license Windows XP Home and Pro.

I use Norton Ghost, i uninstall some of the crap Dell puts on there, i clean it up, customize everything, and then i make an image of it. This way you dont have to worry about exceeding the activations, it doesnt take as long to re-install everything, and all your settings are the same evertime you reformat.

but why should i order a cd with i have my own xp i can us that i still havnt used all my activations up on and with the drivers wont xp automatically detect all my hard ware and install drivers?

Because for one thing, it only costs 10 bucks from Dell if you order a Dell machine. Secondly, you can only use your copy of Windows on technically, one machine. Once you register it, that's it. Microsoft has made many changes in the past several months about being able to use a single license on multiple machines. The only way they will allow you to install it on other machines is if you've made major changes to your existing machine such as, replace the motherboard.

ok but i think i have a licence right now thats not being using my copy of xp has like 3 seperate licences so say i use that and it works just fine..wont xp automatically isntall the drivers for my hardware

By manufactor, I was talking about Dell. I didn't say the dell disk would be expensive, was just saying expect to pay for it.
