I'm looking into upgrading ram for a friend who has a Dell Dimensino 8200 with the 400mhz front side bus. he only has 256mb (2x128) and wants to upgrade to 2 gig (4x512)...It has RD Ram which I looked into and couldn't even find on new egg and crucial and kingston don't list either. Is this wierd ram? The place I did find it wanted over $500 for 2 gigs???

RD-RAM is sort of like the Blu-Ray and HD-DVD wars. It was between RD-RAM and DDR-RAM. After searching around, you probably can figure out the winner...

It's pretty rare to find anything much higher than 256MB sticks. Your best bet would be to build a new computer seeing how out of date it is, unless you can find some sticks for next to nothing.

You know, out of all the RAM I've had over the years, I've only had two sticks of RD-RAM, a pair of 128MB sticks like your friend :P

That ram will be hard to find and very pricey. Your friends best bet is to save his money for a new system. Rdram was supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread but it never panned out.

found some matching pairs on ebay...4x256 for 1 gig costs $45.....probably his best bet if he wants to go that way...not too much money...think the 2 gig (4xz512) was like $120
