Dell U2711 Monitor and ati 4870

I am planning on getting a new monitor and was wondering if my card is still good for handling games on high settings with this new monitor. If not any suggestions? Also any other suggestions for a gaming monitor?

so will it be able to handle future games pretty good? Gonna watercool the gpu so wanna make sure it will be good before i spend the money on a block.

For that card, I would sell it and put the money you were going to spend on watercooling and get a GTX580. Will spank the existing card and probably be cheaper. The other option is to drop in another 4870 in crossfire. But yeah, it'll play most games on high, BF3, skyrim etc on medium.

wow i would love to get a $500 card but a block is only $80. might be able to swing a $200 card but the wife would kill me, especially cuz i talked her into the monitor hehe

you could do a 570 on the 27 inch dell, but that would be the bare min id suggest for single card to max that screen out.

Ah ok, I didn't realise you already had the existing WC setup. At that monitor's resolution, you will need more grunt. I would get another 4870 then.

so, i scored some brownie points and might be able to swing a new card. I do like amd but shoot if the gtx is better then it is what it is. So what card should i be looking for. I know bigfella suggested the 580, will that last for a while? What about the 6970? If intel is the better card for this monitor and gaming, should i hold out till the 600's come out to get a better deal on the 580?

so that card will handle the 2560 x 1440 resolution on full settings playing games, todays and future more hungry games, for some years?
