i was running system restore when it said it failed. i restarted the computer and it would not boot. i entered a windows xp install disk to repair the system. it said that there were no hard drives detected. I dont think the drive is broken because i tried it in another computer and it spun up and said with a dell banner on top (i was not using a dell) that the disk could not boot. i am really stumped and i need some help.

SATA driver problems, I believe. Windows XP only knows how to find IDE drives without additional drivers loaded. If you have a floppy disk, press while the setup starts (when prompted) and select the driver you wish to use. If you don't have a floppy drive, you can use nLite to recreate your Windows setup disk with your SATA drivers. Here's a simple guide on how to do so...

He can also check the BIOS and see if there is an option to enable a compatibility mode so he won't have to load SATA drivers.
