Dell?????

I"ll try and make this as short as I can..

i bought a Inspiron E1705 a little over 6 months ago.. I got the bells and whistles, well most of them, spent a little over $1600 bucks.. I wiped my drive about 2 months after getting it do to spyware, and sinse then nothing but problems.. I am getting the same error though.. the NMI: parity check / memory parity error.. (there is nothing about this online?) so anyway Dell sent me new memory, it wasn't matching so it didn't work, they sent new memory again and I was getting the same error, they sent a tech to my house and replaced the mother board and the memory again, same error, sent the tech out to my house again and replaced the mother board, the memory and the hard drive. same error still??? I then asked for a new replacement and they can only send me a refurbished laptop?? there is more to this but the Fedex guy has been here twice trying to deliver said laptop and I missed him, might show up today but I am going to have it sent back, and I am requesting a refund on the original laptop..

First Q is would anyone here except a refurb for something you paid ~$1600 for?

Second Q has anyone had this parity error problem?

third Q after I get refund what shall I buy? I use it for gaming and pic's and music.. basically to replace my POS desktop with the 933Mhz.. Oh and the reason I bought a dell in the first place is I get a discount working for Intel..

Thanks and I hope to here from you guys..
Josh

Yes, yes, they offered a refund?
They sent me the exact same unit after they replaced the ram and mobo in mine and then it had vista so im in the process of fixing that... Sucks to have these issues.

you took the refurb??

good to know i'm not the only one with that issue, well yano what I mean right?

I haven't got a refund as of yet? at the very least I will except a credit to my account with them and buy another new unit? I just can't see getting a refurb and having someone elses problems becoming mine..

Of course I took the refurb, you do know a refurbished unit means that it was a cancelled order right? So say I order one and cancel then that unit is a refurb, not someones old POS. Basically I got vista and a new battery for my troubles....

the dell tech told me it could be a cancelled order, meaning not always.. and they stated there would be no upgrades..

A referb could be a cancelled order or could be a repaired system. you have little choice on if its a referb or not.
what do you mean " they stated there would be no upgrades.. "
i would want the upgrades i paid for.

upgrades like vista? I bought it right before vista was released..

Fedex was just here, told um to return it to sender..

And guys there is a part I didn't mention in the book I wrote the first time.. Dell completely lost my request to get a replacement the first time I called.. there for when I called the second time to get a tracking number for the replacment and the tech said I didn't request one and they wanted to replace parts again in which I said no, I told her if its not in the mail don't bother sending one, and they overnighted one that same day anyway??

My expierience with dell is prettymuch the same... Conflicting information, broken systems, I want my money back as well. I understand now why everyone refers to it as the "Dell Hell" becuase this has been the most misrable expierience of my life. Worse than the time my PC died before my first WoW raid EVAH =P and the time that I learned the PC my dad bought as a "Gaming machine" and spent 1200 dollars on was a complete ripoff. I am gonna try to sell this machine, the gig of ram I upgraded from. Also my spare battery and carrying case.... Mine died in a CS:S tourney and 4v5 my team lost 16/7 after winning 13 games in a row the first round vs a large clans A Team! I am building my gaming desktop and ditching Dell forever, not getting one of those 2407's but rather the gateway or HP equivelent because frankly they twist and turn my case every which way to avoid sending me the original system. They wanted to credit me 100 dollars to buy XP at 287(their web page) just to get my laptop back to normal.

here is the email I got back from dell:

Dear Josh,
Thank you for contacting Dell

We do apologize that you are not satisfied with the replacement laptop. We do regret that you would like to return it. However, unfortunately, we will not be able to process the return of the laptop as we handle only Home Accounts. Please contact customer care for Employee Purchase Program @ 1-800-695-8133 to get the return setup.

For future reference, please revert to this email.
Thank You for choosing Dell!

Bastards are going to give me the run around now.. but sounds like they are going to give me a refund!! I hope, even credit my account would be a start!!

so back to planning my new laptop:

I got a budget starting at $1600 bucks, I already paid that so I am will to go a little more..

Use it for minor gaming, C&C, Oblivion sometimes, and online poker? Music and pic's and surfing the web of course..

and now preferable not a dell!!

any help?

I would say buy a dekstop and a cheap laptop, but the next best option GFX wise would be the ASUS laptops with the Go7700 or Mobility Radeon x1700

Well Dell opt'ed to give me a NEW replacment, go figure huh.. So looks like I get the same setup but in a new system.. I think I could have pushed a little more and got a refund but I just want a system that works..

No. They WILL NOT refund after 30 days. Infact the worst part is that they told me that If I was I can send the unit back.

I asked if I would get a new one.... No
Will I get a complete refund... No
Will I get credit............... (pause) No...

Yeah I am sending back a 1400+ laptop. Dell would have to kill me first.

thats how i felt, I don't want a refurb when I spent over 1600$ bucks for it.. and its 21 days not 30.. took me 2.5 hours on the phone and 5 different people to get a brand new replacement, and everyone of them took at least 10 minutes to read through my file due to it being so long.. after this experience I will NEVER buy another dell computer again.. Dell customer service sucks the big one!!

hey anyone want to buy a brand new Dell E1705 in the box unopened? it should be at my door step on Wednesday, but I need the box to ship the old one back so it will be opened unless your local to the beaverton Oregon area.. Will sell for what I paid..
