Dell's Proprietary Part?

I own a 2002 model Dell Dimension 4400. Does anyone know if I would have to buy ram from dell or can I buy from a local store. I had to buy a power supply from Dell before because that was their proprietary power supply and I needed to know if Dell had proprietary ram.

They don't have special RAM. You could buy some from a local store or alternatively buy something like Corsair or crucial off NewEgg.com

They do have to have special RAM IF you plan to use the stick of RAM that came from Dell when it was built. It's just as costly to buy a new set rather than buy the special RAM to add in.

No dimensions don't all take DDR2. In fact, this particular model uses DDR. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4400/specs.htm

But the rest is correct you can buy RAM from anywhere.
