Looking for more up to date advice on reliable, easy to use software that will allow me to design a home. Would then take plans to architect and/or home builder. Willing to spend up to $200.

I do not know about your area but over here in the UK, if you look in places like B&Q or Maplin, you can find cheap home designer software.
I know that you are not from the UK, but it may be worth checking
out.
