Desktop backgrounds

How do I find a list of previous desktop backgrounds in Vista home premium please?
Some years ago I had a pc running 98 or XP )not sure now which it was) but I could access any wallpaper that I had used and I only had to click on it to reinstate it. I don 't necessarily use my own pics so would not have them on file.
I am unable to find anything similar on Vista.
Many thanks for any advice.

i dont think you can :( but im not a 100% sure on windows 7 i have never seen this option nor have i heard it :) good luck :D

What exactly do you want to do?

If you right click on desktop, go to personalise, desktop background and hit the browse button, I cannot see how there isn't a desktop your wouldn't be able to find.

Not sure I completely get what you want to do..

Is this what you mean?

Yes S.T.A.R.S. that is exactly the screen I wanted but it seems it's not to be found in Vista. Thanks anyway.

Bigfella, thanks to you also but I am completely unable to find the screen you showed in your post in Vista Home Premium.

No, wrong operating system. It looks like this in Vista and 7.

Yes I know he does not use XP anymore.I just used that picture to see if that is what he meant.

  • 1 Go to the Control Panel from the Start menu.

  • 2 Select "Appearance and Personalization," then go to "Personalization."

  • 3 Select "Theme." There are several themes to choose from. Select the one you want and click "OK."

  • 4 Change your desktop's background image by right-clicking in an empty space on the desktop's background and click "Properties."

  • 5 Select the tab that says "Desktop."

  • 6 Choose an image from the drop-down list provided. There are a number of standard, default backgrounds provided.

  • 7 Choose an image stored on your computer as your background image by clicking "Browse."

  • 8 Find the location of the image you wish to use and select the image. When you are done, press "OK" or "Apply" to see what it looks like first.

Cheers!

My thanks to all who have taken the trouble to respond.
It would seem that Vista do not store wallpaper that has been used. I expected to see a whole list of any that I have used which are not on file on my PC. Just randomly taken from any source.
Of course I am able to access any that are on my files OK.
Anyway thanks again. I have now conceded defeat and given up.

I've had the windows 7 package sitting on my shelf since it started but I have always been happy with vista and have not bothered to use it. Leave well alone and all that.
Are you saying that 7 would give me the list I expected to see.

no. I don't think any of them keep track of your backgrounds. IF they do, it is a registry setting or something.

Smart thing to do is to save your backgrounds in a folder so you have them again if you need them.
