Desktop build, but not buying anything. Need your help/input

Hey everyone, I decided that since I have 2 computer laying around that I might as well make on of them useful and build it, and throw out the other one. The 2 computers that I will be working with is a Gateway, and my old Desktop that was built for me awhile ago. Both have issues so I figured I can probably solve one by the other's parts.

So here's the plan:

1. Use the Gateway case since its a little bigger then the other, plus my other one isn't in the best of shape.

2. Use the motherboard from the other computer since the Gateway's I believe is shot.

3. I'm going take the memory from the Gateway and add it to the other, because the other is running slow so I think it needs more memory

4. If the gateway hard drive matches with the other I will use that at the same time since its only 20GB

Do you guys see any problem with any of this? Anything I need to know about swapping parts? I never done anything like this before.

Also what is a good paint to paint the case? I want to paint it black.

Well you have to look at the compatibility of these parts

Can the mobo use the ram, since you are swapping from other computer?

What brand are both of the memory sticks?

What size motherboard it the one your using, cause it might not fit in the case.?

How old are these computers?

The memory doesn't effect the speed of the computer, thats all cpu.
The added memory can allow the computer to run smoother, and be able to have more stuff added at one time, but it won't affect speed very much.

Quite a bit of questions you have to ask, so what you can do is post the specs. of bother computers, that will hlp determine if they will work or not.

Also this desktop isn't going be used for like games say or anything like that, mostl for all my music and any other BS stuff.

Edit: No idea how long they are, I am going say more then 5 years for sure.

Edit: Memory in Gateway is Samsung 128MB PC133 133MHz Sync CL3 168-Pin DIMM Memory Module Mfr P/N PC133U-333-542
And the other computers memory says DDR266 256M
