When i was defragging my computer it froze. I then turned it off and tried to go to the desktop but it said an error like "please take out any previous hardware you just installed" but i have no new hardware installed. So everytime i turn on my computer it just goes to a screen that makes me choose from normal startup , safe mode and stuff. Then it takes me to a blue screen that says the hardware problem. Anyone have any solutions?

The event viewer in Administrative Tools found in the control panel would be one thing to take a look at there. Once you open that up look for anything related to the error message you have been seeing. There will two catagories to look over with the first being the application error record and the second being a record of system errors. The third button there will copy the information seen in each error event. If you get stuch try posting here or using the MS link for help and support.

PCeye, i think he is saying that he gets the BSOD after he choses Safe or Normal mode, so he wont be able to get to the Event Log.wayne00 said:

The error message being seen was already posted by wayne00. "remove any previous hardware recently installed" is the error message that was posted.

I think so... i just put a link to one of my previous posts that had it in there.
The BSOD desplays a similar message about halfway down "...disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software..."
wayne00, are you able to take a picture of the error, it might help us figure it out?
If you couid have a digital camera you could upload the image in jpeg or gif format and post a link here from imageshack. One idea is to try reseating all of your memory, video and sound cards after using an air cleaner to blow oout all of the dust. If one of those is lifted up in a slot the driver being loaded for it is causing the error message to be generated.
It doesn't sound so much like the video card due to the error being clearly seen. The last option is to perform a repair install on Windows. You would need the installation disk to repair the basic system files to get Windows running again. http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

the message is right and the screen is blue but there are no red arrows pointing at anything if i remeber. it says hardware problem and then restart computer was removed. i will try and take a screenshot for you guys to help me out in the next 1-3 days. i hope i do not have to reboot my compter! :*(.
