Well if you are building, newegg.com and tigerdirect.com are great. IDK how their pre-built desktop computers are. Checking it now, it looks like the upper-shelf PCs are proficient in one area, but lacking in another. Your best bet when spending around $1000 US is to build a computer (epically for gaming).
Try Ebuyer..i havnet purchased anything of them but i heard its good.

the one above the very bottom desktop pc on that page isnt a bad prie and good specs,But if you want to game i would recomend a new GFX card for it and another gig of ram.
