Desktop for my Sister

Hey everyone,
My stepdad wants a cheap tower for my step sister. He wants to spend less than 500. She is going to use it for internet, homework and playing the sims 3. Thats it. So anyone who knows of a tower that isnt complete junk please let me know.

Is he/are you against building your own? If so/not, I would recommend an APU from AMD. Cheap, runs cool, less of a hassle with video cards and all that. Could easily build a nice computer for $500.

yea we dont have time to build it so we need to order a completed tower. I told him i could build one but he declined. Thanks

You could build a reasonable computer for under 500 but to play the sims 3, you are going to have to spend a bit extra for a decent graphics card as that game is very hungry for power. My 3 year old computer I built for $1300 struggles. Sure its 3 years old but my gpu is still worth about 90. Spend the extra on atleast a gtx 550 1gb. Might push your budget a bit but it is recomended.

See this quote for a system I just priced up:

$350 might be a stretch, but you can definitely build a mini-ITX system for that. These kinds of systems are small and portable but more suited to media playing than anything else. Regardless, here's a low budget system that is not one of those:

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119195

Total cost: $440.93 before shipping/rebates

It's $90 over budget but everything is able to be upgraded. GPU, RAM, GPU, HDD, everything.

You will want to substitute the GPU for a more powerful one for the sims 3 though.
