One thing i know. Not exactly sure of your problem. My daughter gave me a 17" Toshiba laptop. Said the wireless did not work no more. Wife said give to grand daughter. I looked at the laptop and seen a button. Looked like a wireless button. Small. Hit it and connected. Daughter said give to her. Suspect she was cleaning and wiping the keyboard. Might be your problem.
Just a thought if nothing or connection.

What wireless adapter are you using on the desktop? Do you have the driver installed correctly?

Hey Tremmor, Yeah. That was the first thing I looked for, but couldn't see one, and as it was a desktop, figured it wouldn't be there.

JohnB,
Not sure where to find that.
It's a refurbed machine straight from manufacturer, so would expect everything to be a-ok...

There's 3 entries...
Microsoft Virtual WiFi Mini Port Adaptor
Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller
Realtek RTL8190 802.11n Wireless LAN (Mini-)PCI NIC

All seem to be working correctly...

Open network and sharing center, click on connect to network. If the wireless device is functioning properly and turned on you should see available wireless networks. It's also possible if you look under your start menu programs and look for realtek wireless utility or something like that, you should be able to connect with that.

Only thing i can think of. Is your wireless turned on for the router. You should see a connection. Might not be able to connect but ya have to find a connection first. Have to isolate something. Computer or router.
