Desktop or laptop

All this time I've been shopping for a desktop, but I have my senior year of high school left then college. So I got to thinking. Should I just buy a new laptop instead of getting a desktop that's only going to be able to sit in my room.

The thing is, I want my computer to play games like Crysis and new games coming out, and I don't know if any laptops can handle what I want, and fit in my budget ($800 and below).

So if anyone out there can kinda help me with what I should do because I don't know anything about computers. I have heard laptops are really hard to upgrade, but would it be more wise to get a laptop because of college coming soon.

I really want it to handle games, fast internet surfing, and of course writing stupid research papers. Those are more than likely all it will be used for.

And I'm also looking for any suggestions on a good laptop or desktop because I don't even know where to begin.

I don't know whether you could possibly find a laptop under 800 that can handle hardcore games. If your really intent on playing hardcore games and keeping your budget, go for a desktop.

Definately a desktop, for $800 your not going to get much in a notebook, while in a desktop you could probably get a 4870, quad core phenom II, 4gb of memory, and a nice display.

I guess I'll just spend my $800 on a good desktop tower. And when time comes around next year I'll get a cheap laptop for school and just keep them both. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good gaming desktop under $800. I've checked cyberpowerpc and tigerdirect but there's too many choices.
