Desktop recommendations ?

I am planning to buy a desktop . So I went to dell web site and started to customize it . But I don't know really what would be a good choice for the future in most of the options . SO I surf the web more from HP and others

The CPU will be mainly duo 2 quad .

1) OS , vista or XP ?
2) Ram , 2, 3,4 ?
3) monitor type ? I can get 2 19 inch with the price of 1 monitor 24 ? I am between ( samsung , HP , dell )
5) video card , how that would affect my usage ?
6) mouse and keyboard ( logitech 99% )
7) any thing imporatant ?

So what do think experts ?
 
Have you ever considered building your own system? It's a lot simpler than most people think and you can TRULY customize your PC to fit your needs often at a better price than pre-builts.
 
I swear people off buying computers from manufactures. lol they rip you off. and often put passwords and other restrictions on the machine.

Go to a online computer component shop, and they can usually do it for you.
 
I need it for work , that mean more than 8 hours . I am .net programmer that uses different IDEs and some graphics editing tools.
 
But isn't it cheaper to buy a build computer since all the components would be from the same company ? also what about the OS ? isn't it cheaper to get it installed ( vista mainly ) ?
 
including the monitor I would pay 1000 - 1200 $ for that . Also I would like to have a quite system , I tired of the noisey system :confused:
 
Um I live in New Zealand, so I dont know how the retail computer market is where you are (US??) But here in New Zealand you go to a shop or buy from dell or whatever and firstly I couldnt even find a system half as powerful as the one im getting lol, and secondly the top ones they were selling were at least twice the price of my one.

But yeah maybe America is different?
