hello chums...can anyone out there offer me some advice please?

my desktop has an 'Asus A7N8X motherboard' and has not been used for quite some time.

i recently plugged it in and found that there was no power to the motherboard led.
i checked the PSU (450 watt atx) and it was burnt out.

i replaced it with a 300 watt atx psu (gifted by a friend) and the green led on the motherboard now lights but nothing happens when the front on/off swith is depressed.

my friend told me to remove all leads from the floppy, hard drive, cd drives leaving only the power lead to the motherboard but still the unit wont power up.

ive no idea what the problem could be and any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

That PSU may not have enough power for the system. Try and find a PSU with the original wattage. You can buy a 450w for pretty cheap if you can't find one to test system.

thanks for taking the time to reply and help me.

i will have a go and try your suggestion and should be able to get a comparable PSU for not much money.

best regards
dave

the saga continues....please help if you can !!

i have now replaced the PSU to a new 430 watt (without on/ off switch).

the green led now lights on the motherboard and the processor fan starts immediately. the green led lights on the front of the CD ROM drive and i think the hard drive is spinning...but

the on/off switch on the front doesn't seem to work nor can i open the CD ROM tray, nor does the monitor show any screen.

i have tried changing the three strips of RAM in different slots but still no joy.

it sems wierd that as soon as i plug the kettle lead into the PSU the processor fan starts.

the computer hasnt been used for 18 months so is it possible that the bios battery could be dead thus affecting startup?

as you may gather i am not a master at computers!
any help is appreciated.

Mabye you misplace front panel jumper. Check everything back and make sure all jumper and hardware is properly attached.
