detect optimal frequency

i have an fx 5500 and i used the "detect optimal frequency" button on the nvidia driver thing that came with it and it bumped my clock speed from 270mhz to 296mhz, should i keep it or default it, rather is it safe to keep it? thanks.

It's never 'safe' to overclock but if it is running stably then you might as well keep it.
