Detecting Array... How to get Windows Vista off HD

I have been getting the error message "Detecting Array" when my computer starts up. I have put the HD in an external case, and was able to get my important stuff off it.

Let me start off by saying that I am new to this forum, decided to join and see if someone can help me! I am no expert with computers, but would think I know more than the average person.

Here is the specs for my computer:

Acer Aspire E380 ASE380-UD440A

Processor AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ / 2.2 GHz

Memory 2.0 GB / 4.0 GB (max)

Hard Drive 320.0 GB

Operating System Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium

Optical Drive DVD±RW - IDE

Graphics Processor NVIDIA GeForce 6100

Graphics Controller Integrated

I have tried everything  :( :( ... I reset the Bios/Cmos (Taking the battery out, Getting into the menu, and even "swapped" it on the MB. I have even checked all the cables, took out the power, all the cables, RAM, HD, CD, etc., Nothing has worked.

RAID is not set up in the BIOS

I have decided to try and reformat the HD, but do not have the recovery disc.

I am able to get into the HD via having it set up as an external on my laptop, but I do not know how to get the files off if to be able re-install Windows.

I am in the process of putting a different HD in it (from another computer) to see if the HD is bad.

MY MAIN QUESTION IS: HOW CAN I GET THE FILES I NEED FROM MY HARD DRIVE (USING IT AS AN EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE), SO I CAN RE INSTALL MY OS.

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Any help is much appreciated. Thank you for your help and time :D :good:!

You will not be able to reinstall the OS by using the old drive. You will need to get recovery disks from Acer.

You said RAID wasn't set up. Are you sure RAID is disabled. Make sure RAID is disabled and the drive is set to 1st in your boot order.
