DFI EXPERT - 2GB (2 x 1GB RAM stick) will not work in dual channel

My friend has 2 x 1024MB of RAM in his DFI Expert motherboard. However, no matter what he tries, the RAM refuses to work in dual channel mode. We have tried the orange slots, the yellow slots but none do the trick. His RAM are Kingmax DDR400 CL3 sticks. They are identical in all features and come from the same batch. DO you guys know what the problem could be. The board refuses to boot with them in dual channel configurations

Do you guys think it could have something to do with the timing being set wrong by the mobo or something of that sort? Or is it sensitive to 1GB sticks? It simply does not make sense to me.

Try booting with one stick first, power down, and then add the second.
