DHCP client won't start automatically

Was having great difficulty getting online through my router until I found that I had to start the DHCP client service through admin tools in the control panel. Trouble is it won't start up on its own and I have to do it manually everytime. Tried uninstalling TCP/IP protocol, shutting down, then reinstalling it and restarting again. DHCP started automatically only once after I did that. Any ideas?

Running Windows XP, SP3. Cabled direct to the router, not wireless.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling your network card. If it won't auto start every time I have a feeling the service is corrupted or the OS has issues, and even less likely but possible -- bad hardware.
