dialup (yes dialup) question

Ok i'm on dialup over here and the speed is fine for me (i can play company of heroes, no lag.. something i can't say for about half of the COH community) but the Download speed seems to be capped at around 5kbps.. does this sound right? I've also heard that some high end Dialup modems download much faster, anyone know anything about this? Sorry for making a whole post out of this but i want some advice. :D

Oops i forgot, i have a 56k :)

i don't know how much you really shud be expecting to get but here in my country dial-up speed is only 3kbps.
i think the upload speed is higher thats why you can play games online
 
thats because 56K is a rated speed in Kilobits, not kilobytes, your download speed is rated in kilobytes, 56Kb in KB is 7, but seeing as most modems only ever connected at an average of 40-42, it would explain why you would only get 5KB downspeed

don't know about your case but you're very right.Also, some people doesn't even know about broadband high speed internet. they just love to dial that number and hear the crunching sounds:D

Haha! Yea the best part was crossing your fingers hope you connect to a "good connection" and that no one calls your house. Oh the fun of dial up.
 
Hey, I just got rid of dialup after six solid years. In some areas, dialup is all that's available, especially if you're too far from a DSL central office, or cable internet service is too expensive. In my area, cable internet service from Comcast is $20 a month for the first three months and $42.95 a month afterwards, if you already have cable TV, but $58 a month if you don't. That's obscene. I was lucky to get Verizon DSL for $15 a month.

I'm on dialup too and it sucks, 3-6k downloading (It jumps to 6k for 2-3 sec then goes back down)

hopefully I get faster internet soon
