Did a Clean install of Xp pro, but after a very short while, xp runs slow again?

I was having problems with starting windows, it took like 2-4 minitues to get outa the black windows loading screen and then like 5 to just load my desktop, also took about 5 - 8 mins to load a small game called crossfire(similar to counterstrike, i think). I decided to do a clean install of windows, for about 4 or 5 restarts and everything, and i mean EVERYTHING worked about 10 times as fast (fast as they should), somehow though....everything is exactly back to normal slow speeds. I have a few programs that i downloaded since the clean install, they are: ZoneAlarm (fire wall) Avg (antivirus) my Motherboard Drivers (Alivenf6p-vsta) two games, cross fire and rappelz, and i have cc cleaner and spybot, anything you see that caused this to slow down windows so much?

my system is
amd athlon X2 6000+
2 Gigs Ram
windows xp profesional
motherboard is a ALiveNF6P-VSTA

tell me if any more info is needed
 
I also had a bit of the same problem with my laptop.
I found out that when I installed Adobe Reader (freeware) it slows it down a LOT. I have no idea why - it's not that big of a program either. I even installed Microsoft Office on it and that didn't slow it down :|
