gateway 2000 180Mhz, got arctic 5 today, took heatsink off, and it flew onto the mobo, took heatsink off, put a generous amount of arctic on there, and put it back together. the power light just flashes. take out heatsink and turn on same thing, take out CPU, same thing, video card, same thing... ????? please help! (has alot of my Product keys, 95,98,98se,2k,ME,xp,xp pro, dos, office 2k, office 2003, visual basics.. ect

Could you please be a bit more clear? And if you want to recover illegal product keys than you might not get much help here.

nonono, its my computer, it didnt have any thermal paste, i wanted to recover it, since i wanna see how much i can overclock it, and it had no fan on the heatsink, and it crashed alot.i put thermal paste on it, put it back together, and nothing happens except that the power blinks... take RAM, Processor video card, and disconnect everything, same blinking.. better?

By the way.
What's a "generous" amount of AS5?
You're only suppose to apply the amount equal to half a grain of rice.
Which, is like a pin head.
Very, very, very small :s

and I don't understand exactly what happened after reading it dozens of times.
So I'll just not say anything at all :]

Gateway 2000 isnt that a old socket 7, I think P1? I dont think just the clip would do anything. Try taking the heatsink back off, you dont need alot of compound, just enough to make a thin layer on the CPU If its one of those flat top P1. And reinstall it and try again.
