Did I do this wrong?

My video card is in my sig. I was wondering if I really limitted myself with this. How much difference would I notice if I installed another one in SLI vs. a single 7900 or 7900 in SLI?

The games that I play:
Myst (Revelations & End of All Ages)
Halo
Unreal Tournament
Doom 3
Batlefield 1942

How about with movies? Would I notice a difference there at all?

with those games, there shouldn't be any need for anything more than a single 7900. are you experiencing poor performance?

nope, for those games, you shouldn't notice anything with one or 2 7900's, unless you're staring at the fps counter or something.

I get sort of a blured line in the middle of the screen when Doom 3 on the highest settings. Other than that, not really. I wasn't sure if the way it works is that w/ a better card there'd be more to see. How do I explain this......say, my card can only do so many calculations so this is what I'll see on the monitor. If I got a better card, would I get better detail? Or will I get the same detail out of both, it's just a matter of how the card will react when trying to produce them? Does this make sence?

Also, if I just got another 6800 in SLI, do you think that'd take care of it?

I guess what I'm asking is, what happens when you go SLI? How do I figure out what numbers will do what so that my performance increase can be predicted before going that route?

I'd like to know so that I can weigh my options on my own instead of having to ask all the time.

Ultimatley, I'm trying to compare the difference with the following:

e-GeForce 6800 GS 256MB (compared to) e-GeForce 6800 GS 256MB SLI (compared to) a 7800 GTX (compared to) 7800 GTX SLI

I'd rather no one sent me the link to the 101 either, I've read it and I know it's there.

I've read articles in magazines trying to answer this question with the same GPU and they couldn't give a specific answer.

Thanks to anyone who can explain. It's hard for me to understand because I don't have anything to compare it to. Before I built this PC, my only graphics options where in how much memory I could get w/ the card. Understanding graphics seems to be the most complex part of building a machine.

Thanks again.

The performance can't be predicted easily, cause using SLi you should be able to get the most performance when using higher resolutions and a higher level of AA. But it all comes down to what settings and computer parts you compare the performance to. My oppinion is that you would try to sell the 6800GS and buy a 7800GT or better.

if theres a blurry line in the middle of a game i am wondering if it is a driver issue or if it is a game issue...

I just bought the card like, 2 months ago. Selling it and buying a new one isn't an option. I'm not saying that going SLI is an option either, I'm just wondering what I'm missing out on.

As far as the line in the screen, it only appears when I move around quickly in the game, not if I'm just standing there.
