Did I kill my Motherboard when I upgraded my RAM?

Hi, I am new to this forum. I need some help please. I have a self built computer with ABIT IC7-G motherboard with socket 478. CPU 3.0GHz P 4. The board has four slots for DDR DIMM. I have 1 Gig DDR PC3200 Dual Channel memory on DIMM 1 and 3 and the computer has worked great for the last year. Like a fool, Fry's electronic was having a sale and I purchased two more DDR DIMM total to 2 GB of memory. They arrived today and I plugged them into Slot 2 and 4 with some difficulty. When I reconnected the computer, nothing boots. I heard a long beep and nothing happens. I decided to removed the two new DIMM and the two old DIMM. I then found out that the two new DIMM were DDR2 with many nore pins than my old two DIMMs. I put my old two DIMMs back into Slot 1 and 3 and still, nothing happens when I boot up, just a long beep. I even went to CompUSA and purchase two new DIMM to put into the slots 1 and 3 and still, just a loud beep. Did I fry my motherboard with what I did? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Try resetting the CMOS. If the beep's different from when you had the other RAM in there, it MIGHT be ok still. I mean, I've seen RAM get so hot it melted the slot, but the computer still worked(you just couldn't use that one slot anymore :P )

No smoke ever came out. and yes, I wrongfully obtained DDR2 instead of DDR. I cannot get the computer to even do CMOS check. Any other suggestions?

Just putting your current o into other slots, try different combinations...

How the heck did you fit 240pin DDR2 into 184pin DDR slots in the first place? as you said, that would be of some difficulty. That would probably short something out, too... you may have fried your old ram.

I don't really know how I did it. The middle notch seemed to fit with the slots and both DIMMs snap right into place (with a little push, of course). I switch on the computer and I only got one long beep, then nothing else. I quickly turned off the computer. Since then, I have put the old DIMMs into slot 2 and 4, then 1 and 3. I even went out and bought two new DIMM to put into 1 and 3 , 2 and 4 slots. Still nothing. just a beep.
