*SOLVED

Hi everyone,
EDIT: Please read my below post as well!

I just got a new HDD and I backed up my old one with Image for Windows.

I just now learned when trying to restore everything to my new HDD that the program cannot create a lock on the HDD running the OS (Windows XP home).

I made a Image for DOS boot disc and restored the image and now windows won't even begin to boot!

I don't have time to mess around right now!

Hi everyone,

I just got a new HDD and I backed up my old one with Image for Windows.

I just now learned when trying to restore everything to my new HDD that the program cannot create a lock on the HDD running the OS (Windows XP home).

I don't have time to mess around right now! I need to get this sorted out. I have a 20gb image of my old HDD and can't restore it. Can I make another DOS backup from the image file backup I already have? HELP!

What are you using to create and implement the image?

I'm using Image for Windows 1.7 by terabyte. The image extension is inconveniently a TeraByte Image file. HERE's the help info for this problem, but i don't get any of this. Downloaded Bart and having lots of problems/errors. Image for DOS doesn't seem to accept IFW images.

UPDATE: Booted from a burned Image for DOS Disk, selected source file as Partition, found image file, validated and restored it to NTFS drive C with 400gb free space. It validated and restored and cleared my HDD before hand. Now, when I boot up Windows, Windows won't boot "because of a computer disk hardware configuration. Could not read from the selected boot disc. Check boot path a disk hardware..."
AHHHHHHHHHH! I'm starting to freak out! I have a lot of stuff to do and none of my files I need! :(

Link to my error after restoring image to my Drive C: HERE

I just realized this is probably because my installation of XP was for a Dell Dimension 4700 and now I'm trying to restore that same installation and settings to a completely different system (see my sig)
I'm going to try a repair installation of XP

**Solved using Method 2, in recovery consul and then editing the boot.ini file Now that the image has been restored though, only 35gb of my 500gb HDD are fromatted and so I can only use 34gbs. I'll have to figure this out. Can I combine my unformatted free space with my formatted partition?
