Did I make a bad purchase?

How much can he upgrade it, and will it be worth it is the question.

That doesn't matter really, it's his investment and he can do as much or as little as he likes..

He's able to upgrade to his heart's content, as long as it fits in the case, at that point, you buy a new case.

A new power supply and (depending on which) graphics card you use, you'll definitely see this able to handle games just fine. For something extremely CPU intensive you may notice some lag, but you can upgrade that too.

Because you don't like a brand, or you've heard that they are bad, doesn't guarantee the product is going to fail.

Before you buy any upgrades, just be sure they fit, else you'll need a new case.

Exactly, people need to stop making rude statements based on their own personal dislike of a brand... I've personally owned many HP products over the years and the reality is...every company out there has made good and bad products.

Some of the advice/opinions in this thread, while people are entitled to voice, are not helpful--and in several cases--incorrect, rude, and downright disrespectful.

--Anyhow, the OP can certainly have some fun with this purchase and upgrade with some fun stuff!!

At some point in the upgrade you would have been better off not buying that computer at all.

He only needs the PSU and GPU to play games...

That same statement can be made about any computer purchase because they all get to a point where upgrading is necessary.

With that logic we all should stop buying computers, cars, houses,....etc..

I'm not trying to slag on you personally but this thread has annoyed me a bit.

I'm not calling it a bad purchase or badmothing the OP, but if he needs to upgrade then it's a fact that he wasted money at some point on this purchase. Was it a bad decision to buy this for what he wants to do with it? Possibly.

Yah whatever, we all make decisions... like I really shoulda spent $2000.00 on my mortgage and insurance..but I built a new PC...

s*** happens and life goes on..

Overpriced, yes. But you just need to upgrade the power supply and video card and you'll be fine. When you pick a card out, just measure the inside of the case where the card goes, just to make sure it will fit.

If it makes you feel better I would bet that comp would run those games. I doubt they will run very well though.

Plus I think he said it came with a 23" monitor, so there's a plus.

for the price heck yeah on the 6870, otherwise i'd take the 560 as it was said in another thread too that the performance is ony about a 2fps difference and depending on the game it can be better or worse, but he 560 has physx which adds a lot to games that have it

I'm still exactly as indecisive as before, haha. First off, what does PhysX do? Also, I only really plan to play Skyrim, BF3, and MW3.

physx is easiest to explain by googling it and going to a youtube link compairing them, but basically it adds in all the dust and particles in the air and the trash and papers flying around in most games, many games off-load this to the cpu so everyone has the more enjoyable detail but some games made for/by nvidia require an nvidia card to use this and it makes a big difference in the amount of detail in the game
