Did my SSD seriously just die?

I have (or maybe had) an 120GB OCZ Vertex3 in my hotswap canister. All of a sudden this morning it just disappeared off of the My Computer list, and it isn't showing up in disk management at all either. Did my SSD seriously just crap out? On my hotswap canister, the power light is on for the SSD and it's activity light blinks once in a while as usual, but it's not showing up in My Computer or Disk Management.

It's not an emergency because I didn't have anything on the SSD, it was blank anyways and it was in my PC when I got it from the prev

Holy crap...you've been MIA for a while now!!!!! I'll probably regret this, but I kinda missed your silly posts and constant string of catastrophic PC disasters.

Anyhow, yeah hard to say but it might be toast..I had a Vertex 3 die on me a few weeks ago..they are kinda old now!

LOL! I've been busy lately because high school is starting soon and I am in marching band. I've been busy every day from 9-4 this week at band practice and I'll be gone all next week at band camp, then school starts. At first when I read you're "they are kinda old now" I was like "no" but thinking back my PC was built in 2010 so the SSD is at least 5-6 years old, so yeah it's getting there in age.

About to pull my BD-ROM drive and put the SSD on it's connectors. Will be back shortly with results.

Just rebooted my PC. I didn't even pull the BD drive, I tried rebooting the PC with the SSD in the canister, and it actually worked. It is showing up in My Computer and Device Manager again, but sometimes it disappears and reappears like a connection is loose or something. Again, it could be a dying SSD or a bad canister? IDK...

My PC is like a 100,000 mile used car, one problem after another, but hey, it's fun to work on it. I've definitely learned more about computers in the past two years I've owned the Beast than in the rest of my previous life.

My words of advice to you...

Marching band is good, but playing an instrument is even better, chicks love a guy that can rock out...watch out for the quiet girls at band camp that play the flute//  dem be the wildest ones!

I wouldn't call it "fun to work on"... you've spent way too much money trying to "fix" it... and end up never fixing the problem.

Can confirm. Dated a Clarinet player. Wild would put it lightly.

Da hell school you going to. This is literally the opposite of every band I've ever seen. I was in percussion and it was a downright shock that we had 2 girls out of the 14 on drumline.

I met my girlfriend in band. We both play the flute

My wife plays sax, keyboards, and bass guitar.. its a trifecta of epic

might as well be the person asking this... why is your SSD in a hotswap canister?

I actually just thought of this as well.

Why on earth do you have an SSD in a hotswap canister and not... ya know.. inside your computer... for your OS. Like a sane rational person would do, such as myself.

The 2.5" mounting bracket is missing from my case and I can't find it. The only place I have for a 2.5" drive is my hotswap canister. I always keep telling myself "one of these days I'm migrating my O/S to that dang SSD" but next thing I keep forgetting. lol
