need help to restore a hdd. looking for something to retrieve my data about to lose almost 500gb of data.when i run scandisk it gets to about 50% stops ran it for 12 hours and it stuck on 48%.

If this is your main drive you could try removing it and adding it as a slave/secondary drive in another computer and try to move the data across (small chunks at a time). Once you have got as much data off the drive as possible there are various recovery utilites you can try to resurrect the disk.

the drive came out of a mybook 1tb i took it out of the caseing and it works a lot faster but it still has problems.

Get all the data off it. Likely the hard drive is failing. Once you have verified it has failed smash the hard drive platters with a hammer to prevent anyone from possibly recovering the data off it.
