I want to purchase a new computer as I'm doing OCP course. I'm so confused about the difference b/w coure2D and dual coure processors. Please tell me about this and what type of processor and mother board should I have to buy.

the pentium d is a dual core, but on the old netburst architecture.
basically 2 Prescott's side by side.

the intel dual cores are stripped down versions of the core 2 duo's. they have less cache and everything, basically released at cheap prices to counter the low-medium end amds X2's. (overclock very well, just ask ramodkk hahah

then there are the core 2 duo's which are the best of all, theres not really much to explain about them, they run on the new core architecture.

(all of the above is how i understand it and is probably totally wrong)

here's an easier way to understand:

"dual core" is a really general term to mean two cores. "core 2 duo" is more specific family two core CPU's. all core 2 duo is a dual core CPU, but all CPU's with two cores is a core 2 duo

Dual-core is a generic, any brand designation to say a CPU has two cores.

Intel's "Core 2" is a specific designation for a specific type of CPU.
