Please help. What is the difference between your cpu temp and system temp. I have a Q6660 and stay in the mid 40s for cpu temp but on nvidia system monitor it says my system temp is 178C How can this be???

Bad program or bad sensor.System temperature is the temperature of the whole system, basically the tempertaure you feel when you open the side panel. The CPU temperature is the tempertaure of the CPU only.

I would lean towards agreeing with the previous poster as to a bad system temp sensor, but he is right, the system temperature is the ambient temperature inside the computer case, i would check your case fans first just to make sure one of them didn't fail, if they all seem to be working fine you might want to look into getting your case's temp sensor replaced

You probably have a bad senser. But the System temp usually refers to your motherboards Northbridge Temp. Not what degrees it is inside your computer case! You need to download a couple of temp program to make sure its not just a buggie program.
