Difference in modems?

I was just wondering if it matters what kind of modem you get. I just need a cheap dial-up modem...My budget is like $20, but I was wondering if it makes a bit of difference what modem you get?

Nope not really you should be able to find about 3 or 4 different modems for $20... Any of them are fine...

Thanks for the response. So what's with the $5-10 dollar modems? Are those just fax modems, or will they get you on the internet?

i bought a $6.75 modem on newegg, ran like a normal modem, if you go to a store though there like $15+.

A modem is a modem... There's really no differece as long as they are idetical in spec (56k, v.90 or v.92, etc...)

just make sure that you get one that is 56K and is a v.92

rebates all the time for free on 56k modems at like bestbuy and other large retailers. check out some of those stores.

Well, I usually love Best Buy, but I went in there the other day, and they didnt have any modems cheaper than about $25. I was like, that's crazy, when I could just buy one for $11 including shipping on newegg, or tigerdirect. I still love Best Buy, being surrounded by electronics...
