Hey guys I was wondering what is the differnce in having a 32-bit copy of XP and a 64-bit copy? What are the benefits of 64-bit over 32-bit? And what area (gaming, video-editing, photoshop) would it be most noticeable?
If someone could point me towards a good article about this I would be happy lol
Thanks Bartman

Theres really no difference between them right now unless your running really complex programs, such as video editing. However most games and apps are only 32 bit, so you either won't notice any difference or the game/app may not run on XP x64.

If you ask the majority of the users here, you will find out that XP x64 is not worth the hassle, because there are tons of incompatibility issues with drivers and programs. I would recommend waiting until Vista comes out before buying a 64Bit OS.

I wouldn't even recommend vista for at least 6 months. That way you can see if there are any serious issues, it's going to be a major release.

I know Archangel uses XP x64 without too many problems but I'd stick with 32bit XP unless you have some pressing need for 64bit software.

I do agree, I've heard that even after Vista is released, the majority of games and apps will still be made for 32Bit, because the majority of home users only have 32Bit compatible processors.

Just for the record, If your processor is a Core Duo, you can't run a 64Bit OS anyways.

as of right now there are no real benefits of it because, like cromewell and omega said, the lack of support for it is so low that many people don't want it yet...

EDIT: read this, it helps a lot...
