Different Excel Question

I've been trying to work out how to do this in excel, I know it's possible because I've seen it before...

I've got a spreadsheet with names in column A, and dates along the top in the first row. [Anyone guess what I'm working on? :P] Now the dates are extending beyond the right side of the screen, but to add the data I need to be able to see the names back in column A. Now I know I could just zoom out or reduce the column widths, but I know there's a way to keep column A always stationary while I scroll left and right.

Anyone know how?

Freeze Panes
If you have a large worksheet with column and row headings, those headings will disappear as the worksheet is scrolled. By using the Freeze Panes feature, the headings can be visible at all times.
  1. Click the label of the row below the row that should remain frozen at the top of the worksheet.
  2. Select Window|Freeze Panes from the menu bar.
  3. To remove the frozen panes, select Window|Unfreeze Panes.

Freeze panes has been added to row 1 in the image above. Notice that the row numbers skip from 1 to 6. As the worksheet is scrolled, row 1 will remain stationary while the remaining rows will move.

That's what I was after, thanks. It's one of those things that you know is simple, but impossible without knowing the command. :D
