different kind of security question

Turns out, in the Aurora area, there's a stage 5 peeping tom who's going around looking in resident windows, watching them do whatever they do in the privacy of their own home. I made up the "stage 5" word. I'm just paranoid as heck about this kind of stuff and I was wondering if anyone works in one of those office environments where they might have some kind of software program or hardware that keeps the boss from looking over your shoulder?

I found this website: http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/3MScreens_NA/ but I don't think these screens can block people from just taking a binoculars from the kitchen window 40 feet away and watching where you browse. I got nothing to hide, but I still like my privacy, and in this case this is actually how it is. The kitchen window is about 40 feet away from where my monitor is and it's one of these "roman blinds" where people can clearly look in and see what you're doing. If I had the option of telling whom I live with that which should I should not go where, I would have mirrored privacy film on every single window of the house.

I also thought about setting up my own camera surveillance outside, but that's too costly right now. I've done it before, two years in a row, setting camera surveillance and other security type stuff up for a haunted house in Villa Park, so I know how to do that. What I don't know how to take care of is this kind of thing.

Is there even such a kind of filter that would keep someone from behind you from seeing what you're typing? Or maybe like the filter makes it so that you have to be within the "designated safe range" for viewing monitors (not hurting the eyes) to even see what you're doing? I dunno. I caught this dude once in my front yard and once in the yard of the lady that lives behind us and I'm fed up. Thanks.

Get better blinds, dude! Also, if you caught him why wasn't he arrested? Did you not call the police?

3M makes a type of monitor shield, but it's more for being on a plane which prevents people from seeing your computer at an angle. Your best bet once again is blinds for your windows.

Yeah, man, I did call the police. An officer came out, I talked to him for a bit, and I told him I was really more worried about the nice old lady behind us. There was a dude that was caught around here back in 2012 I think, spying in girl's windows. A dad actually found a stool under his daughter's window. This is a really nice area, at least the west side, and that's why it's a shame.

Yeah, I was just hoping for a temporary solution until I get all my stuff down in the basement. I guess the thread wasn't necessary, but hopefully I gave someone else ideas in a future search.

Paranoid much, lol.

As above, blinds, or resituate your PC where you can't be shoulder surfed from outside.

Also relevant:

Yeah, I'm a bit paranoid. I'm bipolar and also suffer from social anxiety disorder. I have a difficult time trusting many people. I'm not always quite "at-home" in groups especially, but I know you were just kidding. People gotta have senses of humor about this kind of stuff =)

Thanks for the video link! =)

beers, I think I just died and went to heaven. that video was amazing. wouldn't have been proper w/o the cat tho =P

it's that kind of intellect that I really admire. someone had to figure that out on their own. even if the original video poster wasn't the "inventor", someone figured it out at some point.

totally thx for sharing!

Why don`t you use your webcam as a security camera until you can afford a cctv system ?

Any of these free software should fit the purpose, either to record while you are away or even let you remote you view on your smartphone

Thx =) That's a good idea. I have a Logitech C920. It's a great webcam. The nice thing about it too, is that it has a big blue circular LED when it's recording or ready for capture. I don't use Skype anymore, so I don't get any use out of it.

I like the first link, for one, they have a really cool intro. When I worked at this one haunted house in Villa Park, the guy who owned the place, I heard he had access to the cameras that were 100 feet or whatever up in the air using just his smartphone. It's really such an awesome idea. It's nuts that someone figured out IP camera vulnerabilities, but kinda cool.

Thanks again. I'll check out both links more in-depth a bit later and maybe report back when I get it configured, esp if notice activity. No sense taking matters into my own hands. Simply submitting footage to CrimeStoppers for our city is good enough for me. I've thought about putting a barometric device on our front door, not out of paranoia, just cuz I like gadgets. But anything that is electronic means it needs power. Anything that needs power means that if it loses power [in this case], I get locked out. Sry. word vomit
