ok so whats the difference between the way the athlons say either "clawhammer", "Venice", "San diego", and "Newcastle"....whats the diff between them and whats best???

single core is the San Deigo core, followed close by Venice... X2 would be the Toledo core, which overe all, the Toledo core is the best i believe

Clawhammer and Newcastle are single-core AMD 64 cores, the Venice as well, yet unliket the other two, it is 90uq and has some new features such as SSE3 and an improved memory controller. San Diego is like a brother to Venice :)

As far as I know, San Diego is a newer revision than the Venice. However, they are both excellent cores from the overclocking perspective.

i thought the Venice was newer..... but i prefer the San Diego over the vinice due to its 1MB L2
I doubt there much difference really, you'd be hard pushed to notice it

The differences are:
- how advanced the memory controller is
- the voltages used which is related to the process size
- instruction sets supported
For a ranking of the core revisions have a look at CPU 101

i thought the Venice was newer.....
IIRC, SD = E4, V = E3

comparing my processor to Geoff's, my cache helped alot
Yes but you also have to take into account optimizations (or in some people's cases, antioptimizations) ... its very difficult to compare two systems configured by two diferent people of differing levels of experience

newcastle = less of a win...
clawhammer = lose.
Even though the Clawhammer is superior to the Newcastle ... ok i thought you didnt know much about comps but c'mon, use google before posting stuff like this!
