Different RAM

I have 4 ram slots on my motherboard. At the moment I have platinum ocz ram (good enough), I only have 2gb with vista 32bit and loads of memory hugging applications. My computer is quite slow. I looked into lowering my latency timings but as there is such a small performance increase I decided against it.

But anyway, the question. Can I have 2 slots with one type of memory and then have the second channel with cheaper memory. I know for performance this is probably stupid. I was thinking of buying the lowest latency ram under €30 on ebay. Is this stupid?

It will work, but I'd go with the same RAM as you have now, since most eBay RAM is no-name value RAM.

Keep in mind you will only be able to utilize around 3GB out of 4GB with a 32 bit OS.

There is one or two ebay listings with the ocz platinum I have but its €60 for 2gb. It probably is good value and has lower latency timings, 4-4-4-13(something like that) compared to my 5-5-5-15. I was thinking of getting corsair ram instead of the cheap chinese imports.
