Ok so here's the deal. I just bought a sound card with optical output to work with my home theater system. Obviously both support optical output / input. Everything works just fine in windows media center. DVD movies play in 5.1 and tv shows play in 5.1. Since it's a home theater system I know when ever the computer isn't outputing digital sound because it will automatically switch to dolby pro logic. I would love to be able to play my games with 5.1 surround but for some reason I just can't seem to make it work. For example halo 2. It has a setting under audio that allows you to tell it to use 5.1 but the game never makes the computer switch to digital output so I never get anything more than prologic. Any ideas how I can correct this.
(Medal of Honor Pacific Assault, Halo, Halo 2, Portal, Dirt, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Far Cry 2, Guild Wars, Far Cry, Perfect World are among the games I have. It would be nice if I could get at least one of them to work)
