DirectX 9.0 3D features...HELP

I am using an IBM laptop and have a DVD burner here. After downloading the software, I opened the program and got a prompt saying that my display adapter does not fully supportDirectX 9.0 3D features and that I should update my display driver.

Where can I download this from?

Please help.

Hey

I don't seem to say how this has anything to do with the DVD drive. Perhaps, given the fact that you have a laptop, your graphics card does not support DX9 fully and therefore cannot run the program as it should do. It seems that you need it in order to run it. What is your graphics card?

I bought the DVD drive, and the software that it came with was the Roxio software. I downloaded it, and when I tried to write a DVD (movie), a prompt came up saying that display adapter didn't fully support DirectX 9.0.

After that, I went to the microsoft website and downloaded what I thought was the driver, but it still didn't work! So, now I can't write movies onto the DVDs. I can just write them like normal Data files.

I don't know what graphics card I'm using....How do I check?

And what should I do about the program/driver (don't know which it is...I just typed DirectX 9.0 into the search box at the microsoft website and downloaded the one for Win2000? It seems like I don't need it.

Totally Lost!!!

Hey again

You can check for what graphics card you have by doing this: go to MY COMPUTER, CONTROL PANEL , DISPLAY PROPERTIES, SETTINGS. Once in there it should list the name of your monitor and following it should say ON ...... That which follows the word on is your graphics card. It still seems strange because you should not need to have a direct X 9 capable card to be able to burn DVD movies. I suppose you are using Windows 2000 right? Did it say you already have DirectX 9 installed?

Oh ok...I'm using the NeoMagic MagicGraph256ZX driver

And yes, I'm using Win2000

Oh, and how do I find out whether I have DirectX 9.0 installed?

On the start menu, select RUN and type in DXDIAG...that should bring out a window with various information about DirectX. The problem seems to be in the graphics driver (or hardware). I am afraid that the drivers no longer exist.

I suppose you have a DELL Latitute right?

What is a DELL latitude? You mean the brand of the laptop? I'm using an IBM 600X.

From the DirectX Diagnostic Tool,
I have DirectX 9.0c
When I click on the DirectX Files tab, I see the Notes:no problems found
When I click on the Display tab, It says No problems found,
To test DirectDraw functionality.....etc
Direct 3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is the final version from the hardware manufacturer.

Yeah I thought you had a different brand laptop. Well anyway, I found a link that could help you. Try installing the latest drivers especially the one which says VIDEO. You do have the latest DirectX 9.0c installed so that's why it told you that you do not need it.

Here's the link: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/DSHY-3TLQ2L.html?qse.600x

Or alternatively : http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/multiplefiledownload.do?validate=true

I can't seem to download anything (was trying to download the Video Driver(NM2200)

A pop-up box pops up, but I can't see anything. But after I click the words I agree, it says that java is not enabled or something like that.

Where can I download this from?
You dont. Its a limitation of the hardware (i..e., the chip itself does not support in hardware the DX9 methods)

I bought the DVD drive, and the software that it came with was the Roxio software. I downloaded it, and when I tried to write a DVD (movie), a prompt came up saying that display adapter didn't fully support DirectX 9.0.
Oi I see where this is going:
1. Avoid roxio like the plague (not just cuz they didnt hire me for a workterm but because their software is um... wierd to say the least)

After that, I went to the microsoft website and downloaded what I thought was the driver, but it still didn't work! So, now I can't write movies onto the DVDs. I can just write them like normal Data files
.
1. You can always burn movies as DataDVDs
2. I do understand what yer saying though but you need to encode and author the dvd into VOB/IFO format before you can burn it :)

I don't know what graphics card I'm using....How do I check?
1. Start -> Run -> type dxdiag
2. If the option comes up, click No
3. Goto the Display Tab and check under device

Oh, and how do I find out whether I have DirectX 9.0 installed?

You have DX9

How do I encode and author the DVD into VOB/IFO format? And since you say that my hardware doesn't support the DX9, then what can I do?

I really want to burn the movies into DVD that I can play on normal DVD players, not just Data files....

If you want hardware DX9 support then you need a DX9 class video card, anything GeForceFX or Radeon9250 or better

How do I encode and author the DVD into VOB/IFO format?
new topic = new thread; helps to keep things organized :)

So you mean that I have to go get a new video card, right? Are they expensive? And what do I have to tell them when I get the new card? Do I need to give them some information? (Sorry, I know nothing about video cards)

Or do I just have to tell them that I want it to be DirectX9.0 compatible?

Will any video card be compatible with my system?

You going to have a hardtime finding a new video card for your laptop. laptop are not made to be able to upgrade video cards easily with a few exceptions(alienware and proberly other but that all I can think of right now). If it was a desktop it fairly easy if you have a agp slot.

Then does that mean that there's nothing I can do?

I have a lot of Data files (movies) on DVD that I want to burn into a normal DVD that I can play on normal DVD players, but I can't do that now, so if I can't upgrade the hardware, then does that mean that I will only be able to burn Datafiles?? :(

I really don't know what I should do.... someone please help....

1. Just to clairify, you do not need a directx9-class video card to do anything related to DVDs. DVD operations are CPU tasked :)
2. Im going to assume you have a AGP port so ask for anything GeForceFX5200 (or better) or Radeon9250 (or better)

Or do I just have to tell them that I want it to be DirectX9.0 compatible?
Dont say that cuz every-card on the planet is "compatible" (since compatibility is determined by software installation rather than hardware support).

then does that mean that there's nothing I can do?
Righto, I just realized this is a lappy .... correct, nothing you can do.

DVDs HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH DIRECTX9 :D

Can I just update my driver from here?
Yes you can :)
