Directx 9?

Hi, I'm new here so excuse me if I am posting in the wrong area :o

Ok, here's the question I have got if anyone could kindly answer it for me ;)

I have just bought my cousin The Sims 2. I had gone through the whol installation process - finished loading the 4th disk when it said it was going to load The Sims 2, then a window came up saying that directx 9 needed to be installed on her computer (I thought it already was) anyway she hasn't got internet access so is there a way I can get directx 9 on her system for it to play?

Please help me otherwise I will have a little sad girl on my hands :(

usually with games that require direct x, it should be on the game CD. If not then go to the Direct X website (google it) and download the latest direct x file. Then burn it onto a CD and load it into her computer.

This should work

:(

I thought that it would automatically download with the game but it looks like it didn't. I went to the directx 9 website and save the file to a floppy, I inserted the floppy into my cousins computer and then a message came up saying "please retry later" and something about the connection?

Yeah you will have downloaded the end-user runtime which still requires downloading during installation to retrieve the files it needs.

1) The redistributable installer for DirectX 9.0c (or whatever the latest driver was at the time) will definitely be on one of the sims cds.
2) If you are going to download it you need to get the redistributable version off http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx (which is 30MB+ I think) because the user-runtime one requires downloading during installation.

Thank you everyone, I find it so frustrating and I would like to install it for her tonight so I can give her PC back to her tomorrow morning.

go into my computer and right click the cd drive. now click explore. just above the address bar, you should see "search" and a magnifying glass. click it and type "direct" (without quotations). let it search, and it will find the installation. sorry i couldnt be more help, but it appears ive lost my sims 2 cd's :(

Update:

I have just done the following and it looks like it downloaded successfully - thank you :)

I am now giving her machine a thorough clean and then going to hang it out to dry before reinstalling The Sims. Wish me luck.
Also thank you so much for the fast response, cheers!

Sarah xx

P.S. elmarcorulz I hope you find your CD's soon!!

Anther update:

The computer is STILL with me

After I installed directx 9 and ran scan disc and defragged it I reinstalled The Sims 2, it looked like it was going to launch the game but after a minute the same error window came up like before "Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufactuer. The application will now terminate."

Oh what do I do

u have to open up the computer or look inside or you could right click on ur desktop and go to properties then to settings and it should say wat type of video card if u have one in a drop down bar.
