DirectX question

I recently got a Galaxy GT240 and I says that it has DirectX 10.1 on it, but when I go into the Nivida settings it says that I have DirectX version 9.0. Why is this?

I have downloaded the latest driver from Nivida. It is really not a problem. I was just wondering why that is. I figured it should say that I have DirectX 10.1

Thanks

I saw somewhere that DirectX 10 can only be used in Vista. Is this correct? Do I have to download anything because when I run dxdiag from the start menu it also showed that I had DX 9.0?

Its because you use Windows XP.. The OS only support DX9 unless you find a way to patch DX10 inn..

It's almost the same for me. I have two GTX 275 in sli, when i go to Nvidia control panel it says that i have DX 11, and thats just not possible..

Yes, DX 10 + is Windows Vista + only, no way to get it on XP. Weather you like it or not, XP is sloooowly being phased out.

XP should have been cut off life support already. no reason for microsoft to support a 9 year old operating system. :)

Plenty on reasons. One of the biggest is all the companies still using it. Plus it still has 65% of the market.

the reason that it says dx11 is because vista and windows 7 both have dx11 support. your cards can use dx11 just not all of the features. my 4890 does the same

Like said XP only supports DirectX 9

It says DirectX 11 because thats what is installed. You could have a old DirectX 7 card and it would still show whats installed on the computer. If its not using its features or not.

No it wont.

Show me something that says DirectX 10 or 10.1 cards can run DirectX 11 features. Just because a game is DirextX 11 doesnt mean your 10/10.1 card is running in 11.

You can't run DX11 without a DX11 card.. all you see if you run DX11 without a DX11 card is probably DX10 or 10.1 ..

For instance, you can watch a 1080p HD movie without a 1080p HD screen.. But, you can't see 1080p for real without a 1080p screen. What happens is that the HD video scales down and you only see low-res.

That's what happens when you run DX11 with a DX10 card.. it might say DX11, but it run in DX10...

^ yes. you can't have half a version of directx mixed with another. it's one or the other.

You can't cut an apple and orange in half, put one next to the other and call it an Orangapple. it just doesn't work :P
