Dirt 2 - won't let me use ultra settings (thereforw not DX11!!!)

Okay guys, help me out with Dirt 2. i can't set things like textures to ultra, and post process won't go over medium. I have a 5770. this is weird, i want to be able to use my card to its full potential.

Should i try reinstalling the drivers? I'm using catalyst 10.1 but it keeps reporting that it is 9.12 :confused:
 
Reinstalling the drivers did nothing. it does report the correct version now (10.1) but i still can't use DX11 settings. and for those of you familiar with Unigine i cannot use tessellation in that either. i set it to enabled but when running it clearly isn't enabled, but it says it is.

help :(

EDIT: CCleaner and 3dmarok06 report that i'm using a radeon 3800 series... which i'm not anymore. which means some old drivers are floating around. i've used driver cleaner but they are still hanging around...

Why didn't you fromat before isntalling new drivers? You just about always have to do it, even when going from ATi to ATi card
 
It looks like i'm gunna have to... i just hate having to setpu gta4 again :( and installing everything else.

Great. now the ati installer is getting stuck at detecting hardware...

I'm done for tonight.
 
I think you have to run driver cleaner in safe mode... Then if you can install the new drivers in safe mode too....
 
When you type dxdiag in the run menu what's the DirectX version you are running? Because on my system it says DirectX 11 and i'm playing Dirt 2 on maximum settings.
 
dxdiag reports DX11.

This is really annoying. I finish school early today so maybe it's time for a reformat.
 
Dx11 and Dirt 2 requires a heck of a gpu (5850 or higher) to run on Ultra-High

Lower your resolution
 
Are you saying the game has a similar graphics setup to gta4? as in it locks options when you reach max video memory?

BTW, i maxed the settings as far as i could, with vsync, got a solid 75fps. im only playing at 1280x1024.

I just reformatted and i'm reinstalling everything. 3dmark06 now detects that i have a 5700 series card instead of a 3800 series...

Fan control works now in CCC.

I think everything just got majorly screwed up before...
 
nope... resintalled the game, it gives me the d3dcompiler_42.dll is missing error. i guess ill get the files again. i heard of a fix for the black screen: exit the game, find the hardware settings files for the game, delete them, open the game again and set the highest settings again. and it should work!'

I guess i'll try it when i get home tonight.
 
I just got the demo for Dirt 2 from a magazine subscription and I can play it on ultra settings with about 60-70 fps at 1980x1024, and in DX11 I think.

Type that missing file into google and you'll probably be able to download it from somewhere. I had to do that with 3DMark and then it worked. Sorry about the troubles your having man, from the bit I've played it's really awesome.

Click download at the bottom of that block for the dll, if you still need it.
